The exhibition at GLI EROICI FURORI presents the work of three artists and centers on a symbolic narrative about identity.
Giada Grasso and Eleonora Gugliotta explore the notion of fragmented and divided identity, in which the human presence sometimes appears as distant, transformed, or reduced to memory. This is the case in Textile Architectures, from the Ambienti (Environments)series, by Eleonora Gugliotta, where abandoned places and invisible presences are reanimated. Giada Grasso, instead, investigates identity through the human nude, highlighting the cognitive gaps that influence the cycles of an individual’s life
The connection between the visible body and invisible psychological processes also emerges in Eleonora Gugliotta’s elaborations of human radiographs.
L. Mikelle Standbridge, for her part, reinterprets objects and symbols of cultural identity not as fixed or predetermined, but as fluid entities—constantly evolving, without borders or owners.
There are symbolic connections between the artists’ works and their poetic visions. Gugliotta’s radiographic elaborations are esiti (outcomes), the visible traces of internal, invisible processes. Through diagnostic observation, we can glimpse only fragments of this cognitive elaboration; the works offer possible visual translations of these inner dynamics. Cognitive processes are also central to Giada Grasso’s series of paintings inspired by the Rorschach test—an intense visual investigation in deep blue tones, revealing the multiple facets of identity and emotion.
Fragmented identity reappears in her work Arlecchino, where the iconic Commedia dell’Arte mask becomes a symbol of youth torn between authenticity and conformity.
In Ambienti #10 – Neurologico, Ospedale Psichiatrico di Volterra, Eleonora Gugliotta powerfully expresses the inner conflict of human beings placed within organizational systems that become actual “structures of control.
The same series explores other abandoned places—especially rural spaces—where objects and tools become triggers for reflection on memory and time.
Through her Photo Scroll(ing) series, L. Mikelle Standbridge also addresses the theme of identity, following an artist residency in China. In Wall Hanging #5, she evokes Chinese tradition through stitched and waxed images layered on delicate curved papers reminiscent of ancient scrolls. These visual compositions unfold like stratified narratives, where memory and metaphorical storytelling merge through the passage of time and the gestures of those who once used the depicted objects.
